Ami's primary focus now as an author is writing for young adults. Since her teenager came out transgender, she's dedicated to creating stories with an inclusive cast of characters that address current hot teen topics. Her mission as a YA author is to empower her readers to find their own voice and gifts to effectively navigate the uncertainty of the world by contributing to making it a more positive place to be.
In 2006, she graduated Magna cum laude from the Atlanta College of Art with a B.F.A. In her senior year, she won a national contest hosted by Red Cygnet Press. Their mission was to find the most promising upcoming author/illustrators and award them contracts. It was pitched as the American Idol for illustration majors attending art colleges in the United States. Subsequently, she won a contract that resulted in the publication of two middle-grade chapter books: Quest for the Dragon Stone and Quest for the Elfin Elixir. These books completed her senior portfolio while providing her a two-year internship in publication and marketing. She successfully promoted and organized author visits using a multi-media interactive presentation that garnered attention locally and regionally from Barnes & Noble and prominent city attractions such as the Children’s Museum of Atlanta. Her books were adapted into children’s plays. Most importantly, she received invaluable hands-on experience in book promotions, sales, and distribution. She organized public speaking engagements, that catered to her target age group which allowed her to master public speaking.
Ami is currently seeking representation
for her debut YA Sci-Fi Thriller trilogy.
